Supported by specialty divisions such as Intensive Care, Pulmonary Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Renal Medicine, our Bone Marrow Transplant Program leverages advanced laboratory technologies and state-of-the-art equipment that meet international compliance standards. Our centers are certified by the Ministry of Health and the European Bone Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) group for various transplantation types including autologous, allogeneic, matched-unrelated, and reduced intensity procedures. We also hold certifications for Unrelated Donor Harvests from EBMT.
Patient safety is enhanced in our facilities through the integration of HEPA Filtering systems in rooms and corridors to minimize airborne infections. Transplantations can be conducted using stem cells from the patient (autologous), siblings (allogeneic), or from international bone marrow banks when no histocompatible sibling is available. Our capability to perform cord blood transplantations using in-vitro fertilization techniques further sets us apart.
Our approach to bone marrow transplantation includes:
- Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation: This involves the transplantation of a patient’s own stem cells, typically used in cases of lymphomas, multiple myeloma, germ cell tumors, and certain types of leukemia.
- Allogenic Bone Marrow Transplantation: This method uses stem cells from a fully compatible donor, reducing risks associated with autologous transplants and offering the potential for a healthier immune system transplant.
- Haploidentical Bone Marrow Transplantation: A viable option when no fully HLA-compatible donor is available, using stem cells from a partially compatible related donor.
Prior to any transplantation, thorough assessments are made to ensure the patient’s suitability for the procedure, including cardiac and respiratory function evaluations and screenings for contraindications. Special attention is given to the risk of infection and graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), with protocols in place to manage these risks effectively.
